Chelsea in three-way transfer battle for 23-year-old La Liga star

Transfer News: Chelsea and Real Madrid in talks with Sevilla defender Jules Kounde

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany via Twitter (h/t Football.London), Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde is in talks with Chelsea and Real Madrid over a potential transfer in the future. He has been a powerhouse at the back for his side, which has seen them challenge for the La Liga title this season.

Chelsea tried to secure Kounde’s signature the previous summer, but a move never came to fruition in the end. While the Blues are still in negotiations, they will have to deal with competition from elsewhere. Real lost Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane and could use an addition to their backline.

As such, the Madrid club have been engaged in discussions with the Frenchman’s entourage ahead of the summer transfer window. Unfortunately for the Blues, they are not the only ones in the mix as Barcelona are also in the same boat and are making beelines to land the player.

Stern competition!

Los Blancos could prove to be a problem for us, considering their stature in world football. While they have done well overall this season, the lack of quality has been highlighted in recent matches. With Eder Militao, David Alaba, Nacho and Jesus Vallejo as the only options, Carlo Ancelotti could use another addition to his defence.

We must be wary of their interest as a result and ramp up the pressure to finalise a deal for our long term target. After all, we too have a necessity in the centre of the defence considering how Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta could leave for free next summer.

Barca cannot be taken lightly either, as their recent circumstances showcase that Joan Laporta and Xavi Hernandez have quickly turned around their decline following the loss of their talisman in Lionel Messi. That being said, we could potentially have an advantage compared to the two Spanish clubs.

Since Ancelotti’s side and the Catalans are direct rivals of Sevillistas, it would not be too much of a reach to say that the latter would rather prefer selling their prized asset to us. That could come in handy in our pursuit to facilitate a move for the 23-year-old La Liga ace.

With time running out, it will be interesting to see what lies in store for us regarding this subject ahead of next summer. We are hopeful that the Chelsea management can pull off a move for the French international.
