“Going to Chelsea”- Ex-Brazil ace backs Belgian midfield star to join Chelsea over PL rivals

Leicester City star Youri Tielemans tipped to join Chelsea despite interest from other top clubs

In conversation with Paddy Power (h/t Metro), former Manchester United and Brazil star José Kléberson hinted that Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans should join Chelsea amidst the speculation going on regarding his future. The Belgian star has also been linked with a move to Chelsea’s PL rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a sensation for the Foxes ever since joining them from AS Monaco. Tielemans has been a telling presence in the middle of the park and a pivotal part of Leicester’s success in the last couple of seasons.

The Blues have witnessed his abilities first hand as his glorious strike in the FA Cup final helped Leicester clinch the trophy last summer. No player should be judged on the basis of one match but the former Anderlecht player has shone consistently for the 2015-16 Premier League champions ever since arriving at the King Power stadium.

Tielemans will be out of contract with Leicester in 2023 and it is believed that the Belgian will not be signing a new deal. This has put quite a few PL clubs on high alert and the Belgian international should not be short of suitors considering his deft technique and ability on the ball.

In an interview with Paddy Power (h/t Metro), Kléberson claims that the 24-year-old midfielder is suited to the kind of game that Chelsea play. He also hinted that moves to other top clubs like Man Utd or Liverpool could pose a different kind of struggle for the Belgian:

“Youri Tielemans is not at a big club. Leicester City don’t have the pulling power that some of the other Premier League teams possess. I could see Tielemans going to Chelsea because their style would suit him. When you watch Chelsea play, they are more comfortable with the ball. A move to Manchester United would be a really big risk for him, and Liverpool already have players who can control games and dictate the play.”

Chelsea and could Youri Tielemans be a good fit?

The former Monaco midfielder has become a dependable figure in a relatively short time at the King Power stadium. He has managed to assert himself and has only grown in stature ever since joining the Foxes. An able operator on the ball, Tielemans’ presence is an important factor in Leicester’s midfield play.

He has played 136 games across all competitions for Leicester City to date and has scored 24 goals and provided 22 assists during that time. At 24, the Belgian still has a long way to go in his career and considering his recent form, many of the top clubs would benefit from having such a player in their ranks.

Whilst Chelsea have managed to create a formidable midfield lineup in the last few years, they would do well to add some reinforcements in the middle of the park. The likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho have provided great service to the club but with the duo now entering their 30s, it would be a smart move to consider bringing in a young and enigmatic midfielder to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been affected with Covid issues and injury scares this season. Despite these obstacles, the West Londoners have managed to clinch the FIFA Club World Cup title and will be taking on Liverpool in the final of the EFL Cup later this month.

Competing on so many fronts requires a strong squad and with Saul Niguez only in on a loan deal, we could be one more senior midfielder short once the next season commences. The Blues were almost non-existent in the January transfer window when it came to incomings but that can change in the summer.

While Tielemans seems like a good fit for Chelsea, there would be a string of competition to secure his services should the opportunity arise, and that would make any possibility of a deal even tougher.
