“We must react”- 22-year-old Chelsea star urges teammates to step up after West Ham defeat

Mason Mount urges Chelsea teammates to come back strong from the defeat against West Ham

Speaking to the club’s official websiteMason Mount has urged his Chelsea teammates to step up after the defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League last weekend..

The Blues slumped to their second league defeat of the campaign in the London derby, despite taking the lead twice in the game. The 22-year-old playmaker was the creator for the opener scored by Thiago Silva. He also put us back in the lead with a sensational volley before half-time. However, we lost the game after Arthur Masuaku scored the winner in the 87th minute.

Mount would have been disheartened to come away without a point, especially after helping seal a victory against Watford in mid-week.

The young star recently reflected on the past few games and urged his teammates to come strong despite the stuttering form. He admitted that the Blues have been making mistakes of late and it is something they need to look at.

‘Over the past couple of games, we’ve started to make mistakes which we haven’t really made in the past. We’re a team that doesn’t give away many chances but here we’ve conceded three and that’s something we need to look at.

‘It’s been a tough week…As the gaffer said, maybe it’s a bump in the road but the players in the team need to step up and come strong in the next game. We must react from this performance because we need to get back to winning ways.’

While defeat is never a preferable result, it could however hold a mirror to every side that experiences it. Chelsea need to take a good hard look at themselves and rectify the efforts that has typified their performances of late.

Leading from the front

The Englishman was our best player by a mile last season. He performed well under Frank Lampard and went on to do the same under Thomas Tuchel. In fact, it was his assist that led to Kai Havertz scoring the winner in the Champions League final.

Mount had not started the season well, looking slightly tired after a long 20/21 campaign and the European Championship in the summer with England. But he is starting to regain some of his old form, as he has scored two goals and assisted two ore in the last two games.

Thus, it only makes sense for him to urge the rest of the side to pick up their form. The youngster might have his eye on the Premier League title this season, and he could be the one that leads us to it.
