“Happy”- Tuchel gives his verdict on this impressive academy ace’s loan spell in PL

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel urges Billy Gilmour to fight for his place at Norwich City

According to the Metro, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has urged Billy Gilmour to step up and fight for his place at Carrow Road.

Gilmour was an unused substitute during Norwich’s defeat to Leeds United on Sunday. The Scottish youngster has not kicked a ball in the top flight for the Canaries since September 18.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League trip to Malmo, Tuchel said the Scottish star still has time in hand to improve his situation at Norwich.

“We will take the decision in January when a decision has to be made and not now.”

The 20-year-old played an eye-catching role for Scotland at Euro2020 and Norwich fans were pretty excited about his arrival on a one year loan at the club.

Despite his tender years, Gilmour continues to impress on a consistent basis for club and country. Hopefully, he will keep his career on an upward trajectory going forward. Tuchel admits that he continues to be in touch with Norwich manager Daniel Farke regarding Gilmour.

“In general, I spoke with Daniel [Farke] about it and was happy to meet Billy around the match at Stamford Bridge.”

Earlier this month, Norwich coach Daniel Farke dismissed reports that west Londoners could look to recall Gilmour in January if he remains out of favour from the starting XI. Given the options at the Blues’ disposal, staying on at Carrow Road would be the best course of action for Gilmour.
