Injury News: Chelsea handed major boost in attack ahead of Malmo showdown

Christian Pulisic returns from injury ahead of their Champions League tie against Malmo

According to ESPN, Chelsea have been handed a major boost ahead of their Champions League match against Malmo as winger Christian Pulisic returns to the Blues squad following an ankle injury.

Pulisic will be making his first appearance for the club since August 14th after Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has said that the winger is in the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League away clash at Malmo.

The 23-year-old United States international has been suffering from an ankle injury which he picked up while on international duty in a World Cup qualifier match against Honduras back in September.

But it was not all good news on the injury front for the Blues as Tuchel confirmed that the strike duo of Romelu Lukaku and Time Werner along with midfielders Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount will be out of action for the Malmo encounter.

Talking ahead of the Champions League match, Tuchel said (h/t ESPN):

“These four players are unfortunately still out but also for Timo, Romelu and Kova it is no surprise. For Mason, he doesn’t feel any better but to stop any speculation it is not COVID.”

“He is just ill and does not feel good enough to take part in training or take part in the trip to Malmo. The good news is Christian Pulisic is back in the squad for Tuesday.”

Chelsea are second in the Champions League group behind Juventus but a win against Malmo will almost guarantee their safe passage to the next round. The Blues will be buoyed by their 3-0 Premier League triumph over Newcastle United on Saturday, as they aim to make it seven straight wins on Tuesday.

Christian Pulisic last played for Chelsea in August.

Their last defeat came in the Champions League at the hands of Serie A giants Juventus. But the Swedes should not be as difficult a task as taking on the Old Lady on their own turf.
