Transfer News: Chelsea hold informal talks for former showstopper Eden Hazard

According to El Nacional (h/t Express), Chelsea are keen on bringing former superstar Eden Hazard back to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian ace left for Real Madrid in a mega-million deal worth £150million. in 2019. Having established himself as one of the best players with Chelsea, he was expected to kick on with the Spaniards.

Unfortunately, he looks a pale shadow of the player who excelled in Blue. Loss of fitness and form has seen him struggle to make much of an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Hazard has scored just four goals in 37 La Liga appearances for Real in the last two seasons. At the same time, Chelsea have kicked on and even won the UEFA Champions League last season.

He currently has two years left on his deal in the Spanish capital. According to the report, Hazard is growing frustrated by his lack of opportunities. He was left out of Real’s last three league games by returning manager Carlo Ancelotti. Hazard was also an unused substitute in the UEFA Champions League clash against Inter Milan.

The player is now keen to move away from the Bernabeu and Chelsea remain a potential destination. Informal talks have already taken place with Blues honcho Roman Abramovich regarding a potential return.

While Thomas Tuchel does have options, none of his attacking midfielders has managed to form an irresistible duo with Romelu Lukaku. At 30, Hazard still has a few years left in him and could prove to be a shrewd purchase.

However, the club should not look at emotion and focus on the player he is today. Manchester United sure grabbed eyeball by landing Cristiano Ronaldo. While the Portuguese ace will definitely perform, he returned to a side that needed to look to the future and not the past.
