According to talkSPORT (h/t IB Times), Chelsea offered West Ham the chance to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek but the Hammers refused. It would seem the Blues were hoping to get the midfielder off their hands but David Moyes at West Ham was content with his midfield options.
The recently closed transfer window was a bit different for Chelsea. Yes, superstar signings were made but the focus was on offloading a number of fringe players. They managed to do that well enough with several permanent and loan exits. However, there were definitely a few that missed out.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek surprisingly is one of them. Surprising because even a few years back he was one of the best players to come out from the academy. Regardless, his time at the club has been marred with injuries and mixed loan spells to Crystal Palace and Fulham. There was not much hope that he could push into the side after the new signing of Saul Niguez.
It has now come to the fore that Chelsea did indeed try to get Loftus-Cheek off their books. He was offered to West Ham but they refused to take up on Chelsea’s offer. That has left the 25-year-old’s future in limbo as he is now stuck at Chelsea at least until the January transfer window opens.
Harsh as it may seem, the fact is that Chelsea have much better midfield options at their disposal than Loftus-Cheek. The least Chelsea can do is keep him around the side and probably give him some games in the cup competitions. In January, further efforts can be made to offload him.
