Chelsea face scare as 22-year-old star suffers from flu on international duty

Kai Havertz has contracted a ‘flu’ in a huge blow to Chelsea

According to a tweet put out by Absolute Chelsea via Kicker Bundesliga (h/t football.london), Kai Havertz is a doubt for Germany’s game against Armenia tonight after he contracted a ‘flu’.

This has also put a doubt on the 22-year-old being available for selection for the game against Aston Villa next Saturday. The German has been in incredible form ever since Thomas Tuchel took the reins at Chelsea earlier this year.

The youngster also had a fine pre-season under his belt while he also started the UEFA Super Cup final and assisted Chelsea’s only goal of the game, although he did miss a kick in the penalty shoot-out.

Havertz has also played a pivotal role in the Premier League as he produced a great performance against Arsenal before going on to score a looping header against Liverpool at Anfield.

The German has settled well alongside Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount but could now be a doubt for the game against Villa. However, this would not be the biggest of Thomas Tuchel’s worries as he has a lot of squad depth in that area.

Christian Pulisic, who featured in the season opener for Chelsea and scored, suffered from Covid-19 but could now be back into the squad, provided he has fully recovered. Moreover, the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Callum Hudson-Odoi could also feature for the Blues if Havertz is unavailable for Saturday.

The Blues have picked up 7 points out of a possible 9 during their first three games, and Tuchel will be hoping to kick-start a winning run in the next three weeks before the next international break. Chelsea fans, on the other hand, would be hoping to catch a glimpse of summer signing Saul Niguez, especially since the game is at Stamford Bridge.
