Transfer News: Chelsea keeping tabs on Ilaix Moriba
According to transfer news from Diario Sport (h/t Mirror), Chelsea are said to be keeping tabs on Ilaix Moriba. The Barcelona youngster has long been admired by Chelsea and with an exit looming, Barca are trying their best to keep him. Although other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs have also shown interest.
It seems like Barcelona are being hit with one thing after the other this season. Lionel Messi’s move to PSG is still something that is hard to believe but now they could be hit with a double whammy with Ilaix Moriba also looking for an exit from the club with Barcelona’s finances in dire straits.
Moriba was among a host of breakout stars for the club last season despite Barca struggling to produce results. However, his sudden impact gave the club hope which was soon extinguished. Moriba’s current contract runs till 2022 and Barcelona have tried with offers of around £2m-a-year. But with so many clubs after him, he holds the cards in this situation.
Chelsea have been keeping an eye on the midfielder for a while now. Now, with Barcelona embroiled in problems, the Blues are hoping to strike a deal for Moriba, after having held an interest in the player by watching his performances in youth games.
