Report: Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s stance on more summer signings after Lukaku arrival

Chelsea may not make any more signings this summer

According to Goal (h/t Express), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is ‘cautious’ about making any additions to the squad this summer.

The Blues have only made one major signing this summer in the form of Romelu Lukaku, who arrived at the club last week in a move worth £97.5million. Apart from the Belgian, Marcus Bettinelli was also brought into the squad to provide cover for the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

Tuchel does not look too keen on making any other additions this summer, however, the German boss would like another centre-back to be added to the squad, with Jules Kounde a possible target for that role.

However, a lot of that depends upon contract talks with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, with the former said to be weighing up his options before signing a new deal at the club.

Tuchel’s cautious nature about making any more additions could have arisen after he made it clear a couple of weeks ago that they have 42 players training with them. However, the club are trying to sell several stars this summer while they are also arranging loan moves for the rest of the players who might not fit into Tuchel’s plans.

The arrival of Romelu Lukaku has seen the likes of Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi close to exiting the club with moves to AS Roma and Besiktas respectively. The club have already sold Marc Guehi this summer while they have also sent Billy Gilmour out on loan.

Additionally, the Blues are also planning on offloading the trio of Ross Barkley, Davide Zappacosta, and Danny Drinkwater before the end of the transfer window, while Kenedy is also close to joining Flamengo this summer.

Thus, Chelsea will think twice before making any more additions this summer, but if they are able to execute the required sales, they might consider signing some of their other transfer targets.
