Not Locatelli – Chelsea eye £42.9m Serie A star who won the Euros with Italy this summer

Transfer News: Chelsea enquire about Italian star Domenico Berardi

According to transfer news from SportItalia (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi.

The 26-year-old is an underrated player who played a role in Italy’s triumph at the European Championship last month. He grabbed two assists in the tournament as the Azzurri beat England in the final at Wembley on penalties.

Berardi is coming off an excellent season that saw him lead Sassuolo to the eighth spot in Serie A. He made 30 appearances for the Italians, scoring 17 goals and making eight assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Berardi will be a shrewd purchase

A potent player, Berardi will not be a financial strain for us should we decide to land him. Despite being Sassuolo’s highest-paid player, he earns around £2.1m net per year in wages. A largely affordable amount for a club in the Premier League, especially Chelsea.

Predominantly a right-winger, he can also do a job as a second striker. It is fair to say that the Italian ace could prove to be a shrewd buy should the deal go through. According to the Express, the kicker could prove to be Sassuolo’s asking price of around £42.9m for the player. With his contract running until 2024, they hold the advantage in transfer negotiations.

Strengthening at the top!

Chelsea are keen to add to the side that won the Champions League last season. While we do have a host of impressive names, it is imperative that we rebuild from a position of strength.

The Blues already have a bid rejected for Federico Chiesa, arguably Italy’s top player at the Euros. Juventus are in no mood to let him go and the Londoners have since turned their attentions to Berardi. Chelsea will, however, face competition for the player. The likes of Borussia Dortmund, West Ham United, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina are all keen on the player. (h/t Daily Mail)

With Olivier Giroud joining AC Milan and Tammy Abraham’s future uncertain, Chelsea will need to reinforce their frontline before the 2021/22 season kicks off.
