According to transfer news from Daily Star, Chelsea are keen to keep Callum Hudson-Odoi for next season. Thomas Tuchel is said to be a big admirer of the winger and wants to keep him around despite the club being overstocked in attack.
Hudson-Odoi burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in the 2018/19 season, where he made 24 senior appearances. However, he has become a fringe player over the last one season as Chelsea made a host of signings last summer.
Hudson-Odoi was also not helped by Thomas Tuchel’s arrival and subsequent switch to a back-three formation. He was given chances to play as a right-wingback but in the last few games, it was either Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta starting there.
However, it would seem that the talented English youngster will be remaining at Chelsea, at least for next season. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that despite Chelsea having one too many attackers, Hudson-Odoi would stay and fight for his place. Rather surprisingly, Tuchel is said to be an admirer of the player.
The 20-year-old Chelsea academy graduate is not coming off the best of seasons. He has been bogged down by competition and a change of formation. However, this decision to keep him at the club might not be entirely great for his development. He is at a stage where he needs constant game time, something he might not get at the club.
