According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea target Danny Ings has rejected a new contract from Southampton. The Blues have kept Ings as an alternative to Erling Haaland, who is looking difficult to sign. Now, the 28-year-old Ings is in a more gettable position, with his contract ending in 2022.
The Blues have shown tremendous interest in Haaland along with the rest of the elite European clubs, meaning that they will have to stump up heavy cash to land him. The Norwegian is arguably the hottest prospect in the world right now and has impressed heavily at Borussia Dortmund. He scored a whopping 41 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this past season.
Getting Haaland is a whole different problem altogether. As Chelsea keep putting their efforts into him, they are also keeping alternatives in hand. One such alternative is Danny Ings. The Southampton hitman has just refused a new deal with the club in a bid to play for a bigger side.
This does help Chelsea, who have looked at Ings as a target previously. Ings’ current deal ends in 2022. It means Southampton will have to sell him now or lose him for free next year. With Haaland difficult to get, Chelsea could well turn their attention towards Ings, who could be a much cheaper alternative.
While Ings is nowhere close to what Haaland is, he is an option Chelsea should consider. He would not cost a gargantuan sum of money and has a wealth of experience in the Premier League. It might not be such a bad idea to keep tabs on this situation.
