Emmanuel Petit urges Chelsea to sign Erling Haaland

According to Metro, Emmanuel Petit has urged Chelsea to sign Erling Haaland ahead of their rivals. The former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder feels that the Blues need to sign Haaland as he can be the answer to all their problems.

The Norwegian hitman has taken Europe by storm with his goal-scoring exploits for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. In 59 outings for the latter, he has scored 57 goals. Chelsea have held an interest in the player for a while now as they try to add a striker to their ranks for next season.

He does have a release clause that gets activated in the summer of 2022. But a host of clubs want a deal this year itself, none more than Chelsea, who have a goal-scoring problem on their hands. A Champions League win overshadowed a lot of the problems we had with our strikers.

Petit wants Chelsea to move for Haaland

Now, one of our former players, Emmanuel Petit feels that Chelsea should push ahead for the signing of Haaland ahead of rivals such as Manchester City and United.

‘I’ll make it simple. Olivier Giroud is on his way out of Chelsea, Tammy Abraham is probably leaving on loan, and Timo Werner is still struggling to score goals consistently and Kai Havertz is not a striker. Chelsea need a new striker and someone who scores lots of goals. Erling Haaland is the answer. He’s strong, powerful and young with a bright future in front of him.

‘Haaland’s value is already very high, and connections with Tuchel increase his chance of joining Chelsea. Offensively, he could become the finisher that Chelsea really need. I can imagine his relationship with Mount, Havertz, Pulisic and Ziyech making him score lots of goals at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea need a top striker, it’s as simple as that.’

Chelsea cannot escape the fact that they need a new and prolific goal-scorer next season. They have kept a few names on their shortlist but it would make sense if they pushed ahead for Haaland. Petit is right in suggesting Chelsea to go after Haaland as he can definitely be a huge solution for Tuchel.
