Transfer News: Chelsea still have a chance to sign Lucas Vazquez

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea are still in with a chance to sign Lucas Vazquez. The Real Madrid utility man has rejected a move to rivals Atletico Madrid and will only move to some other club if contract talks fall through.

Vazquez, 29, is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy and has grown into a handy squad player since breaking into the first-team setup in 2015. This season, however, the Spanish winger has stepped up a great deal, putting in highly impressive performances on the wing as well as slotting in at right-back in the absence of Dani Carvajal.

Currently out with an injury, Vazquez is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season as his contract with Real Madrid expires in a month. This has sparked a flurry of interest in his services from a host of clubs including Chelsea, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.

Vazquez has rejected the chance to move to Atletico Madrid because he is a life long Real Madrid fan. He has also rejected the proposal from AC Milan. With new contract talks going on, Vazquez might end up staying at Real. However, he will be open to a move to other clubs such as Chelsea if the contract talks fall through.

For Chelsea, the interest in Vazquez makes a great deal of sense as he has plenty of experience at the highest level and has shown that he can play in a deeper role on the flanks this season. That would make him an ideal fit as the right-sided wing-back in Thomas Tuchel’s system.
