According to transfer news from Kicker, Chelsea and Tottenham are set to go vie for the signature of Jonas Hofmann. The Borussia Monchengladbach winger is coming off a great season and that has seen interest in the player grow.
A youth product of TSG Hoffenheim, Hofmann has spent his whole career in Germany. He has had stints with TSG Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund, FSV Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach. However, it was only after his move to Gladbach that he started to gain some consistency.
It was revealed earlier that Hofmann had hinted about Chelsea’s interest in him. Thomas Tuchel is said to be an admirer of the 28-year-old German. The pair worked together during their time at Borussia Dortmund.
Now, as Hofmann wraps up his career-best season with 8 goals and 13 assists in 33 games, interest in the player is starting to grow. Chelsea and Tottenham are the two Premier League clubs who have shown interest. There is some interest from La Liga clubs as well.
The German has no release clause in his contract that runs until 2023. If Tuchel wants the player, Chelsea will have to get a deal done with Gladbach. Given the versatility and goal threat he brings, it wouldn’t be an entirely bad option to go after him.
