According to transfer news from Football.london, Chelsea are ready to revive their interest in Declan Rice. Thomas Tuchel is said to have put his name on the list of transfer targets that he wants Marina Granovskaia to get him in the summer.
The 22-year-old was a top target for Chelsea under Frank Lampard during his time at Stamford Bridge. Since the arrival of Tuchel, transfer interest in the West Ham midfielder cooled down. The German manager made it work with the players he had at his disposal to get Chelsea into the Champions League final.
It was understood that Chelsea wanted Rice as a centre-back. Nonetheless, Rice spoke about his preferred position a while back.
“I’ve played midfield now for the last three seasons. I think people get carried away with kind of what they want me to do. My role is holding midfielder. There isn’t any flair in that. I can slot in at centre-half but I think I’ve got much more to give and I think my confidence is growing in midfield.
However, the report now states that Tuchel wants to add the former Chelsea midfielder to his current Blues side and would ask Marina Granovskaia to make a transfer inquiry. Tuchel wants to add another defender and striker to the side.
Now, if Tuchel wants to use Rice as a defender, the transfer might not work out. Rice has clearly claimed that he wants to play in midfield. Chelsea are already stocked in that area. If Tuchel were to promise a midfield berth, it might just be easier to land the £90million rated midfielder.
