News: Danny Drinkwater wants to return to Chelsea

According to news from Daily Star, Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater has hopes of returning to the club and playing for them again. The midfielder joined Turkish club Kasimpasa on loan in January on a six-month deal but claims that he has ‘unfinished business’ at Chelsea.

Signed for a whopping £35m deal from Leicester City in the summer of 2017, Drinkwater never really got going in the blue of Chelsea. He looked a million miles away from the player who was key to Leicester’s title triumph just two years ago. T

his is in stark contrast to the fortunes of N’Golo Kante who also swapped the King Power Stadium for Stamford Bridge a year earlier.

The midfielder has made just 12 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea. His two loan spells at Burnley and Aston Villa also yielded just five league games combined. (h/t Transfermarkt).

However, now at Kasimpasa, the midfielder spoke about how he feels that he has unfinished business at Chelsea and wants to get another chance under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

“I would like to think so. I have to try and start enjoying my football again because in this moment it has disappeared. I keep working hard, I keep grafting and I am doing the right things at the right times and I need to stay injury free and see where it takes me. It is a short career so I need to keep doing the right things and hope things turn around.”

While it is admirable that the former Leicester man wants to make the cut at Chelsea, the fact remains that Chelsea already have a well-settled midfield. The likes of Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho share the duties with Billy Gilmour as a backup.

It looks highly unlikely that Drinkwater who last played a game for Chelsea in 2018 can return to the fold under Tuchel.
