Romano reveals that Chelsea hasn’t placed a bid yet for the Brazilian superstar

The Italian reporter, Fabrizio Romano, recently revealed that although Chelsea have been tracking the 17-year-old Brazilian superstar, Estevao Willian, they have not presented any official bid for him yet.

Estevao’s outstanding performances at the U17 World Cup and the most recent Copinha tournament led to his breakthrough into Palmeiras’ first team in December 2023. In just 12 matches, the teenager scored five goals and provided two assists, making the U20 competition in Brazil a success.

This season has been outstanding for the young star, with an impressive tally of six goals and three assists in just 17 appearances, catching the eye of Chelsea. Most recently, he scored the game-winning goal for Palmeiras in a 2-1 Copa do Brasil victory over Botafogo SP in late stoppage time. After the game, Ferreira gave the young player a lot of praise and said he wanted to hang on to him for a few more years.

Romano reveals the situation between Willian and Blues

Although he has not made many appearances for the club yet, he has showcased some great pieces of talent that have been a major attraction to a few clubs, including Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano shed light on his links with Chelsea in his recent column for Daily Briefing, stating:

“I wanted to mention one more thing. Many questions from Chelsea fans about Estevao Willian aka ‘Messinho.’ Born in 2007, he recently had his debut with Palmeiras and he’s a fantastic top talent with a release clause in his contract of €60m. We had information about an official tweet from Chelsea but what I’m hearing is that Chelsea have not presented an official bid. There is still no official bid from any club at this point. Everything is about talks.”

“I already told you many times that Chelsea are really well informed on the situation. They have been tracking Estevao since November, he’s one of the talents they’re monitoring in South America and are in regular contact but no formal proposal has been sent to Palmeiras yet.”

“The player is also appreciated by Barcelona, but because of Financial Fair Play Barcelona won’t spend €55/60m on Estevao in this transfer window.”

There is no doubt in the fact that it is a huge achievement that Willian already has comparisons with the Argentine international Lionel Messi. He is known as ‘Messinho‘ due to his similarities with Inter Miami’s superstar due to his remarkable play style at such an early age of 17.

The young star already doing wonders

The Chelsea roller coaster is spinning to the point that, to be honest, nobody except Todd Boehly seems to know what’s coming up next. The Blues are really impressed with the young talent, which could make them prepare an official deal for the Brazilian star’s €60 million release clause.

More Chelsea news

It is no secret that Chelsea have been lacking with their offence recently, failing to convert numerous chances consistently in their recent games. An outstanding attacker like Willian could prove to be a wonderful addition to the Blues squad that could really bolster their attack. An official bid could be coming with the season’s end right around the corner.
