Chelsea to pull out of European Super League

In a spectacular bit of news from ESPN, Chelsea have decided to pull out from European Super League. The Blues have begun the process of withdrawing from the ESL as they prepare to take on Brighton.

Chelsea are very likely the first club of the 12 to make a U-turn on their stance to join the ESL. 12 of Europe’s elite clubs wanted to form a breakaway league that would rival the Champions League and generate more money for themselves.

It would be putting it mildly that this ESL idea was met with severe backlash. Pundits, managers, players and fans spoke up against the issue to the point that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson got involved. However, as new developments are taking place, Chelsea and Manchester City are in the process of backing out of this plan.

Protests were seen outside Stamford Bridge as Petr Cech was seen trying to quell the fans. The decision comes after billionaire owner Roman Abramovich heard fan protests. While money was never the intention as it has been claimed, Chelsea are preparing the documentation regarding their withdrawal from this ESL.

More Chelsea News:

It had earlier been reported that two sides, possibly Chelsea and City, were having second thoughts on the idea. Nonetheless, this can be a landmark decision in terms of nipping this whole idea. With two big clubs likely to back out, it remains to be seen as to how the others react and proceed.
