USMNT coach thinks Christian Pulisic has adjusted better to life at Chelsea than Timo Werner

Speaking in an interview (h/t football.london), USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter praised Christian Pulisic for his role at Chelsea and compared him to German striker Timo Werner.

The American winger has had a tough season so far, making just 19 league appearances for the club. Things have gotten even tougher for him under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

It was thought that Pulisic would flourish under him, as Tuchel was the Dortmund manager when the American winger broke onto the scene in the Bundesliga. But he has made just one league start under the German gaffer at Stamford Bridge.

And Berhalter believes that Pulisic has to start afresh and not expect any favours from Tuchel. However, he expects the winger to get more minutes as the season goes on and play a big role in Chelsea’s push for a top-4 finish this season.

“He’s a quality player who can make the difference in the attacking third and I can see him getting more minutes as the season unfolds.”

As for his career at Chelsea since the £60million switch from Dortmund, the American coach thinks that Pulisic is doing very well considering players like Timo Werner have come from the same league and have found life hard in England.

Werner has had a very tough time in England, especially when it comes to the scoring output. The former RB Leipzig front-man has scored just one goal in his last 20 Premier League outings. (h/t Transfermarkt)

But it’s just his first season in England and the 25-year-old should be afforded more time before any judgement can be made. As for Pulisic, he would hope to put his hamstring struggles behind him and get a solid run of games now.
