According to news from UOL, as relayed by the club’s official website, Chelsea have been linked with a transfer for Gabriel Menino. The Palmeiras youngster has been on the radar of several European heavyweights such as Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.
Gabriel Menino is a 20-year-old Brazilian central midfielder who is a youth product of Palmeiras. He joined the youth setup in 2017 and over the years, progressed to the first-team.
Last year he made his debut for the first-team against Ituano. So far, he has made 59 appearances for the Brazilian side, scoring 4 and assisting 7.
One striking fact about the Brazilian is his versatility. Even though the 20-year-old is a central midfielder, he can play at right-back, right midfield, right-wing, defensive midfield as well as in central attacking midfield. It has been stated that the player idolises former Barcelona star Dani Alves.
Chelsea does look a bit stocked in midfield and defence with the likes of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic manning the midfield, while the likes of Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been playing at right wing-back.
Nonetheless, the 20-year-old Menino could be a handy player for the Blues given the versatile nature and adaptability that he would bring to the table. Chelsea could actually use an out-and-out right wing-back or midfielder and Menino could be a good choice in the future.
However, the interest from La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in the Brazilian prodigy could complicate matters for the Blues.
