Speaking to the club’s official website, Chelsea star Andreas Christensen has revealed what manager Thomas Tuchel has done to improve the club’s defence.
The German tactician took over the reins at Chelsea last month following the sacking of club legend Frank Lampard. Having started his tenure with a dour goalless draw against Wolves, Tuchel has seen the team grow from strength to strength in the past few weeks.
Indeed, the Blues have won all five subsequent fixtures following the Wolves’ game, meaning Tuchel is unbeaten so far in his stint at the Bridge. During this run, Chelsea have conceded just one time, keeping five clean sheets in six games.
And, Christensen, who has been getting playing minutes of late, has revealed what the manager has done to tighten up things at the back for the Blues.
“All the manager says is just be comfortable. If you don’t need to play the ball, you don’t have to. Wait for someone to come and take the ball, don’t take last-second decisions, know what you’re going to do and make it happen. He just said to us to be comfortable and believe in ourselves.”
Christensen, who had been out of favour under Lampard, has gotten some valuable game-time in recent games. While it has come due to Thiago Silva’s injury, the Dane has made the most of his chances, having started three games in a row now.
“I have played four games in a row now and it has been a whole since I’ve done that. I have played in the middle of the three before and I’m quite comfortable there.”
Tuchel’s switch in tactics has certainly helped the team get better defensively. Now, the attack is also slowly showing signs of clicking. So far so good for the German at Chelsea. Hopefully, things only keep getting better from here on.
