As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that five players will miss the game against Chelsea after contracting Covid-19.
Manchester City saw their Premier League game against Everton called off earlier this week after a coronavirus outbreak within the bubble.
The Cityzens had to shut down their training centre for a couple of days and only returned to training on Wednesday after results of a new set of tests came out and the entire centre was disinfected.
Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker were confirmed to have contracted the virus on Christmas Day, with three more players now joining them, Guardiola has confirmed.
“Five right now. Five players are isolating for 10 days. The first cases that were released it was two players and three more the second time.”
Guardiola did not divulge the identity of the three players that tested positive in the latest set of tests. However, goalkeeper Ederson did confirm that he was self-isolating and will now miss the game.
Following the cancellation of Manchester City’s game against Everton, Tottenham Hotspur’s fixture against Fulham was also called off. More recently, Sunday’s clash between Burnley and the Cottagers has also been postponed.
Frank Lampard also happened to reveal that there had been a few positive cases within the Chelsea camp as well. However, the Blues’ boss also confirmed that none of them were within the playing squad.
There have been calls for the Premier League to introduce a small break amid rising cases. It remains to be seen what course of action is taken in the coming days. Hopefully, Sunday’s game between Chelsea and Manchester City does not get cancelled.
