According to Italian outlet Tuttosport via Inside Futbol (h/t Football.london), AC Milan have made a decision regarding their pursuit of Chelsea ace Olivier Giroud.
The Rossoneri are currently unbeaten in the Serie A this season and are leading the table going into Christmas.
The Italians are keen on signing a replacement for ageing striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, at 34, Giroud is too old to take on that mantle.
Giroud started off this season at Chelsea behind the likes of Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order. However, he has risen to the occasion and has shown himself to be undroppable in the past few weeks.
With six goals in his last five matches, he has shown age has done little to blunt his ability in front of goal. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Giroud was taken off in the second half of our 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Thankfully, his departure was due to tactical reasons rather than any injury concerns. He will have the opportunity to add to his tally against West Ham United on Monday. (h/t Football.london)
With the Blues keen to get back to winning wars, Giroud could be set to play a key role in the coming weeks.
Werner is struggling to score goals and has gone eight games with a goal for Chelsea. With Giroud going through a purple patch, the onus of seeing us through this festive season could fall to him.
Giroud’s contract at Chelsea expires at the end of the season. While it is understandable that Milan may view his as too old their liking, the Frenchman has shown age is just a number this season.
The striker still has a few years left in him and wherever he chooses to go next season, they will be getting a thoroughly dependable player.
