According to Italian publication Tuttosport (h/t Football.london), Inter Milan will make a move for Chelsea star Emerson Palmieri if they manage to sell Ivan Perisic.
Managed by former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, Inter has been linked with a move for Emerson for some time now.
The Italian defender has found opportunities hard to come by at Chelsea under Frank Lampard. With Ben Chilwell firmly established as the club’s first-choice left-back, that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Perisic, meanwhile, has been a regular for Inter this season. However, he is unhappy being deployed on the left-wing and has been linked with an exit from the San Siro.
The Croatian international spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich. He played a key role in the German side’s treble-winning campaign that culminated with European glory against PSG.
As per the report, Conte could sell the 31-year-old and then bring in a left-wing-back. It is a position the Inter boss is keen to strengthen and could raid his former club for a solution in the form of Emerson.
While Chelsea are not averse to selling the player, they would preferably want to get rid of him on a permanent basis. Inter, meanwhile, would prefer a loan deal. (h/t Football.london)
It would be fair to say that Emerson’s time at the Bridge is drawing to a close. Signed from Roma in 2018, the Italian defender has failed to gain a foothold in the Blues squad.
A return to his homeland could help rekindle a career that has gone stale in London. Whether an agreement can be reached between the clubs remains to be seen.
Emerson has made 62 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. During this time, he has scored one goal and assisted five. (h/t Transfermarkt)
