Chelsea handed transfer boost in the race for David Alaba

According to German publication Bild (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of David Alaba.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the Bayern Munich side for the better part of last decade. He currently has one year left on his contract and could leave on a free transfer next summer.

A versatile player who can play in a number of positions, the Austrian is a jack of many trades.

Chelsea are interested in David Alaba

According to the report, Alaba is not keen to let Bayern get the short end of the stick. He would rather move this summer than see the Bavarians end up with nothing for him next summer.

While his intentions are admirable, it also gives us a chance to seize the opportunity if we are keen to sign him.

Chelsea have already enjoyed an excellent summer that has seen them take advantage of the market. The Blues have brought in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz.

Chlsea signed Ben Chilwell from Leicester City

While signing Chilwell may have strengthened our weakness at left-back, bringing in Alaba could be a bold move to further strengthen our midfield.

An able defensive midfielder with a good passing range, he will complement Frank Lampard’s attacking style.

Alaba’s ability to also slot in at centre-back will be a godsend for a team that struggled defensively last season. Moreover, given his contract situation, he could be a cheaper alternative to Declan Rice.

A six-time Austrian footballer of the year, Alaba is one of the finest players to come out of the nation. At 28, he is at his prime and can be a ready-made performer for the Blues.

The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, PSG along and Manchester City were all keen on Austrian. Whether they will put up a fight if we make a move remains to be seen. (h/t The Telegraph)
