Kasper Schmeichel open to leaving Leicester City amid Chelsea interest

According to a report from The Times, Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel would be open to leaving the club for a Champions League outfit, amid interest from Chelsea.

The 33-year-old Schmeichel has been with the Foxes for almost a decade now, having joined from Leeds United back in 2011. One of the most experienced and reliable goalkeepers in the Premier League currently, the Dane has emerged as a potential target for Chelsea. (h/t Express)

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation is an issue that needs to be addressed before next season begins. Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga has failed to impress since his world record transfer two years ago and has been axed by Frank Lampard, as a result.

Willy Caballero is closing in on 40 and is at the final juncture of his career, meaning we will need to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer at any cost.

A number of shot-stoppers have been linked in recent weeks, with Leicester City’s Schmeichel also among the possible targets.

And, according to a report from The Times, Schmeichel is open to leaving the King Power Stadium in favour of a team playing in the Champions League. It must be noted that the Foxes finished fifth in the Premier League table, four points shy of Chelsea.

There is no denying that Schmeichel is one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Premier League currently. The Danish international managed the 13 clean sheets in 38 Premier League outings in the 2019/20 term.

However, at 33, he will hardly be a long-term solution for the club. Hence, a move for someone younger should be the way forward for Lampard & co.
