Transfer News: Chelsea keen on signing leading 25-year-old Serie A midfield star

Chelsea make contact with the representatives of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

According to French publication Le 10 Sport (h/t Express), Chelsea have made contact with the representatives of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 25-year-old is one of Serie A’s leading midfielders and is one of Lazio’s key players as they mount a title challenge this season.

A powerhouse of a player in the middle of the park, Savic is a complete midfielder who will be a commanding presence in the Chelsea midfield. The Serbian has made 34 appearances this season and has scored 6 goals and 7 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

One man who is helping the club work out a deal is former star Claude Makelele. The Frenchman is one of the best players to join the club during the Roman Abramovich era and has left an indelible impression on our early success.

According to the report, he is now working on Lampard’s behalf as an advisor for his former club.

Makelele played alongside Mateja Kezman during his time at Chelsea. Coincidentally, the Serb now represents Milinkovic-Savic. This personal relationship could tip the balance in our favor in the pursuit of the Lazio star.

The Blues have enjoyed a busy head start with respect to transfers. Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner are already in the bag with more names on the horizon.

Frank Lampard has done well with the tools at his disposal. By adding established names, he could present a serious threat to both Liverpool and Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether we can land the Serbian. One thing is for sure, the Blues certainly mean business this summer.
