Speaking to the club’s official site, Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has outlined the team’s ambition to overtake Leicester City.
The Blues have enjoyed a good start to the PL campaign post restart. Having won both our games, we are now closer to the 3rd-placed Foxes.
“We’ll look forward and look up and see if we can put pressure on Leicester and catch them.”
With just one point separating both the teams, we can leap log Leicester to third place if the upcoming fixtures go in our favour.
Given the constraints, Frank Lampard has had to face, finishing below only Liverpool and Manchester City is an extraordinary achievement. We are some way off from challenging the duo. However, given the transfer moves we have made, that gap is slowly but steadily closing.
A third-place finish will also be a boost for our young squad, who have stepped up magnificently this season. The next step will be to challenge for the title, something Christensen also agrees on.
“If we keep up the work we’ve done so far, it’s only been exciting and we’re growing. That’s where we want to be.”
Christensen has made 22 appearances for the club this season. He missed our FA Cup tie with an injury. He had played both the PL fixtures since the restart.
The Dane has also touched upon the competition for places in the heart of the defence that is keeping him on his toes. He is well aware that any drop in performance will see him get dropped from the side.
“It’s very nice, healthy competition and we’re trying to make each other better.”
Christensen is excited about the prospect of both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner joining the Lampard revolution. It remains to be seen how we do with the duo in our XI.
