According to Globo Esporte (h/t Football.london), Atletico Mineiro are unlikely to sign Chelsea attacker Nathan.
The 24-year-old joined Chelsea in 2015. He is yet to make a single appearance for the Blues and has spent his time predominantly out on loan.
Currently in Brazil with Mineiro since 2018, he has made 35 appearances while scoring four goals. Despite his stay expiring, he continues to train with the Brazilian side.
Mineiro can sign the player permanently for €6.5million. With them choosing not to, the only options we have now is to loan him elsewhere or reduce our asking price.
Capable of playing anywhere across the midfield, he is a versatile attacker who promised much. It is fair to say that the £3.6million Chelsea spent on him has come to nothing.
He has had four different loan spells while at Chelsea. The most promising of the lot came at Vitesse Arnhem in 2015-17. He scored seven goals and three assists in 51 appearances as the Dutchmen won their only major honour in the KNVB Cup in 2017.
Nathan has represented his country at both the Under-17 and Under-20 levels. He made his Under-17 bow at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2013. He ended up with five goals and won the Silver ball for his performances.
It is fair to say that his career since then has failed to hit the same heights.
At 24, Nathan’s opportunity at Stamford Bridge looks to have passed. He has failed to hit the required level and will find it difficult to break into the current squad.
Chelsea are building a top-class side that can compete with the best for years to come. Nathan is better of resurrecting his career elsewhere.
