Former PL star urges Chelsea to take a loss and offload £71m flop signing

Darren Bent urges Chelsea to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga to PSG

According to a report by Football Insider (h/t Express), Darren Bent has urged Chelsea to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga to PSG.

The French champions are possibly one of the few teams who could theoretically help us recoup top dollar for the Spaniard. Whether they will actually do so or not remains to be seen.

Chelsea showed faith in Kepa by making him the most expensive goalkeeper in history when they signed him for £71million back in 2018.

It is fair to say that the deal has not worked out, with the player struggling to impress. Frank Lampard remains unconvinced by the Spaniard and has even dropped him in favour of Willy Caballero, notably in two games – the FA Cup semifinals and the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, two games we could not afford to lose.

Chelsea transfer fixer Marina Granovskaia will face difficulty in her attempts to recoup what was paid for the player. Not only has his stock fallen in recent months but the current financial situation is also not very friendly.

PSG have Keylor Navas in goal. The Costa Rican is among the best keepers in the world and played a key role in Real Madrid’s three consecutive Champions League victories from 2016 to 2018.

However, he will turn 34 later this year and the Parisians should be preparing to replace him. Bent believes PSG are more likely to go for David de Gea, who he thinks is better than Kepa.

The Manchester United star has seen his form dip over the last two years and does not inspire confidence at the back.

To say he has been better than Kepa is debatable. Lampard has shown the guts to drop the Spaniard, something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not attempted to do.

Being dropped for the game against Wolves could be the last nail in the coffin for Kepa’s Chelsea career. Both the club and the player could do with a fresh start.
