Chelsea agree on transfer fee for Leverkusen star Kai Havertz

According to the Athletic, Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed on a fee for swashbuckling German attacker Kai Havertz.

If it is completed, it will become the third high-profile signing the club has made this summer. The Blues have already signed attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech and ace striker Timo Werner in deals worth a combined £89million.

The deal for Havertz could be worth a whopping £72m. This will make the German the club’s most expensive purchase, breaking the fee paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018. Hopefully, Havertz will fare better.

Havertz will become the third German in the Chelsea squad

According to the report, Havertz initially favoured a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez confirmed the club’s stance that they will not be making any high-profile moves this summer. This paved the way for Chelsea to make their move.

An excellent post-restart form has seen Havertz notch up 17 goals and 9 assists from 43 games in all competitions this season. Alongside Ziyech and Werner, he will form a new core for the Blues strikeforce next season.

The player’s representatives and Chelsea will now work on the personal terms of his contract. There should not be any hold-up, with the Blues capable of matching his wage demands.

The Blues have not signed a player in the last two windows. This summer, however, promises to be one of the most exciting in recent years, at least in terms of recruitment.

Kai Havertz is keen to move to Chelsea

Havertz feels he is ready for a new challenge and is keen to leave Leverkusen to further his career. He is also keen to play in the UEFA Champions League. (h/t Mirror)

Leverkusen failed to qualify for the competition after finishing in the fifth spot. They can still qualify if they win the Europa League.

It remains to be seen how negotiations for the player proceed. Signing Havertz will ensure Chelsea have a core of young promising players for years to come. Exciting times lie ahead for the Blues faithful.
