Obviously, the player departing will have left big shoes to fill so the replacement will have that added pressure, but it’s very hard to turn down Chelsea.
The papers have already started their rumours over who Jose Mourinho will bring into the club. The Express have decided to link Stephan Lichsteiner with a move to Stamford Bridge amid the news that Arsenal are interested in bringing the player to North London.
Personally, I feel Mourinho should pursue this option further and perhaps test the water with a bid in the near future.
Lichsteiner is a fantastic player to have in any team as he’s everything you want in a full back. He will attack as much as he defends, but if he’s required to defend more than attack then he will do so without complaints. A modern full back by any definition of the term.
He’s also quite versatile as well. Like Cesar Azpilicueta, he can play on either side of the centre-backs. This has helped when Ashley Cole has been injured as the Spaniard has slotted in as well as any natural left-back would do.
Lichsteiner is similar in that sense as he’s covered right and left back this season and has played a key role in bringing the Scudetto back to Turin.
For me, having Branislav Ivanovic, Cesar Azpilicueta and Stephan Lichsteiner as options available would be brilliant as all of them can drift between any position in the back four adding some much needed depth for any injury pile-ups.
