Rio Ferdinand feels Chelsea cannot sack Mauricio Pochettino after spending billions on signings

Chelsea had been one of the most active clubs during the transfer window under Todd Boehly and went on to spend exorbitant money in the previous window, but the results have been otherwise. Before the start of the new season, the club appointed Mauricio Pochettino after an extensive interview with the manager, who felt he was an ideal head coach to develop this young squad.

However, the outcomes have not been as good as the board and the fans would have expected from the Argentine manager this season. Chelsea are currently ninth in the league, and the club’s last objective is to secure European competition next campaign.

Criticism has continued to pour on Pochettino and the board, with the results failing to convince the fans that their project is working, but the former Manchester United player believes the club’s problems go well beyond their current manager. (h/t Metro), Speaking to TNT Sports, he said:

“What I would say is that if you have spent a billion pounds on potential, then you can’t sack the manager.‘ I’m really interested to see how this summer goes in terms of the management situation.”

‘’Mauricio Pochettino, when he gets an appraisal done at the end of the season, that will be one of the first things he says: What do you expect? I have one of the youngest squads around. I have invested in a lot of potential. No real end product all over the park’. We were saying before, Where is the experience?”

Ferdinand raised a valid argument when he said that you cannot expect a manager to establish a squad instantaneously when you pay billions. He was not given much leeway to make his own decisions during the previous transfer window, but perhaps he will be allowed to bring in players who fit his system in the forthcoming transfer market.

Mauricio Pochettino has come under heavy scrutiny after a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal.

In actuality, they were gullible about Poch. When your team is really young, there are a few different approaches to choosing a new manager. The selection process should begin with consideration of the manager’s style of play, suitability, and squad profile. They decided to hire him as a new coach since they felt he had a strong background in developing young kids.

After that, others can adhere to it. No matter how skilled Poch is at laying the groundwork with youth, it is all for nought if they are not seeing results. They overlooked the most crucial factor and placed too much emphasis on his track record with youngsters as well as his Premier League expertise. Hopefully, they have acknowledged their mistakes next season.
