Noni Madueke backs Chelsea teammate Raheem Sterling following recent jeers.
Chelsea youngster Noni Madueke has criticized the Blues’ fans for their treatment of Raheem Sterling during the club’s 4-2 victory against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarterfinal. Sterling was subjected to boos from Chelsea supporters following what was deemed a subpar performance.
While Sterling’s recent form has been a cause for concern, with this being just one instance of underwhelming displays, the reaction from fans may have been excessive. The England international has struggled to replicate his best form since joining Chelsea, leading to frustration among supporters.

‘‘It’s so important to support him. I’m nobody to tell you not to have an opinion, but I also have mine. That’s one of my teammates, and the criticism is harsh and unfair. It’s our duty to voice our opinion and try to change the narrative a bit.’’
Madueke’s respect for Sterling is understandable given the latter’s accomplishments in the Premier League. However, it’s worth noting that Sterling’s performances since joining Chelsea have failed to meet expectations, leading to frustration among fans. While Sterling’s reputation precedes him, fans may have been disappointed by his inconsistent displays, which have not lived up to his stature as a player.
Other young players have indeed stepped up, showcasing their potential and contributing positively to the team despite Sterling’s inconsistent displays. While Pochettino may value Sterling’s experience and leadership qualities, his continued selection in important games raises questions about his on-field contributions. If Sterling fails to perform consistently, the team may need to reassess its reliance on him and explore alternative options.
With several crucial matches ahead and the return of club competitions this weekend, it’s essential for Sterling to rediscover his form and contribute significantly to the team’s success. As the Blues aim to secure a European spot by the end of the campaign, Sterling’s performance and impact on the pitch will be vital in achieving this objective.
