Headlines of last winter consisted of Chelsea moving to steal Mykhaylo Mudryk from under the noses of Arsenal. The Londoners signed Ukrainian international for a fee of £88.5m from Shakhtar Donetsk as the 22-year-old penned down an eight-and-a-half-year contract at the Bridge. There were recent reports that Mykhaylo Mudryk was believed to be ‘devastated’ when he missed out on an opportunity to join Arsenal.
Though an opportunity to make a move to North London may still be around the corner for Mudryk as Arsenal could still come knocking to sign the left-winger.
Todd Boehly & Co. will be forced to sell some players in the upcoming summer transfer window to comply with the Premier League’s financial fair play rules. According to former French footballer William Gallas, Chelsea would “have no option but to sell” to Arsenal if they were to come calling for Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Former Shakhtar Donetsk winger has found it difficult to adapt to life in London having a tally of just five goals and five assists in 45 matches for the Blues.
The Gunners made Mudryk their primary transfer target in January 2023, instead, they had to settle for Leandro Trossard when Chelsea came in late to swoop the 22-year-old. With the £12m transfer of Jorginho to Arsenal and a £65m transfer of Kai Havertz from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates, there already is a precedence set for Mykhaylo Mudryk to swap West London for North London.
William Gallas speaking to Lord Ping insisted how powerless Chelsea would be if Arsenal came knocking on the door for Mykhaylo Mudryk.
“If Arsenal still want Mykhaylo Mudryk and come in with a big fee, Chelsea will have no option but to sell him because of their financial issues,” Gallas spoke to Lord Ping.
“How Chelsea have got themselves in this situation is confusing. Chelsea will need to think properly on how to sort out their problems, otherwise the fans will continue to be frustrated.”
Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin has a similar opinion to that of Gallas.
Pat said back in December: “Chelsea have cashed in on Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, and others before, and they can do it again. It’s just business. It may not be for the fans, but it certainly is for the owners. A lot of teams would be interested in Mudryk!
Mykhaylo Mudryk has been struggling at Chelsea and the Blues faithful would not mind if they were compensated for the fee that they paid to Shakhtar Donetsk last year. It is to be seen if Arsenal are ready to pay such a sizeable fee for a player they have seen struggling in the Premier League.
