The defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final hasn’t gone well with the Blues fans, as Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s job is now on the line. But the Argentine manager has used the Reds as an example and urged the fans for patience.
Reaching the final of the League Cup was seen as a achievement, and winning it could have kick-started something new under Pochettino, but the Blues once again looked like a shadow of themselves and typically (wasted many chances) lost the game.
With plenty of big chances, Chelsea couldn’t find the back of the net and paid the price for being wasteful when the Liverpool skipper rose higher and headed the ball home in the 118th minute.
It was a massive heartbreak because Pochettino was prepared that the game would go into extra time, but this is something we need to work on because of the poor mindset of our manager. However, after losing the game, the 51-year-old used Liverpool’s time under Jurgen Klopp as an example and said, quoted by Fabrizio Romano:
“I remember after three or four years, Liverpool lost the Champions League and the Europa League, and they believed in the project and, in the next season, were stronger until they got what they wanted.”.
“That is a good example, Liverpool. If we want to challenge a team like Liverpool, it’s not to be frustrated today because we didn’t get the trophy. It’s about to take the example to keep believing; that is the most important thing.”.
To be honest, we could have won the final had our players been more clinical and shown more instinctiveness in front of the net, and Pochettino had not used a conservative approach in extra time. But if you look at the game, we were a better side for the most part of the match, but Liverpool got a glorious chance, and they made it count.
When Klopp arrived, he had big plans to turn the Reds into a dominant club, which he did after years of assembling a strong squad. They lost many finals before they refined their game and became an elite team. And this is something the fans can learn and give our manager some time to do. It’s acceptable that they will have to get used to seeing defeats because it’s a long process, and we have a squad that will take time to become an organised team.
