Eden Hazard names Gael Kakuta as the teammate who impressed him the most at Chelsea

Eden Hazard’s recent remarks on which Chelsea player impressed him the most would surprise many fans, given that the forward played with such star players at the club.

The former Real Madrid star played with many Chelsea legends, such as Frank Lampard, John Terry and Didier Drogba. But the player who amazed him was Gael Kakuta, who barely played for the Blues during his time here.

The forward made only 16 appearances for the club, and it will be awkward to think about how he impressed Hazard given that he featured in only 16 matches for the West Londoners.

Hazard, who became one of the top players at Chelsea, left the club for Real Madrid but couldn’t have as much impact there. In his conversation on The Obi One Podcast, he revealed which Chelsea player got his attention, (h/t Sun), and said:

“I’m going to give you one name, and John knows the player. The only one I was saying ‘wow’… was Gael Kakuta. You asked me for talent. Kakuta is by far the number one. Talent—I mean, talent. Wow.”

Who is Kakuta?

Many would say a talented player like Kakuta’s career didn’t go as planned when Chelsea signed him, considering he was brimming with so much promise. The forward currently plays for Ligue 2 side Amiens, the 13th club of his career.

Chelsea first landed the player at the age of 16 in 2007 under highly controversial circumstances. Chelsea scout Guy Hillion urged the club to sign Kakuta, who was labelled as the most gifted player of that time.

Subsequently, he was drafted by Chelsea’s academy team, Cobham. The player made an instant impact on the academy team and won Academy Player of the Year in his maiden season at the club.

But things turned worse when FIFA found out that Blues illegally signed the player when they forced the player to break his contract with Lens, which resulted in Blues getting two transfer bans while the forward was fined £665,000 and also a four-month ban from football, which saw him never hit his stride.
