Mauricio Pochettino rules out Chelsea star Romeo Lavia availability in Carabao Cup final vs Liverpool

Romeo Lavia has returned to training, but it’s unlikely that the midfielder will participate in the Carabao Cup final for Chelsea against Liverpool on February 25th.

Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that he isn’t fully fit to play any game until he feels otherwise. The Blue signed midfielder from Southampton after beating Liverpool for his signing.

Lavia was on the verge of joining Liverpool before he changed his mind and decided to sign for the West Londoners, but his time here hasn’t been promising since the midfielder suffered an ankle injury. After his recovery, the Belgian midfielder returned to action, but in his first game for the Blues, he sustained a fresh injury and has since been on the sidelines.

However, the midfielder has returned to training, but it’s improbable that he will participate in the game, (h/t Football. London), and Pochettino told the media about Lavia’s injury:

“No. He is not training with the team. He is still recovering. But no, no, impossible. Still not on the pitch.”

Since players typically need time to heal from more than two injuries, it is unlikely that Lavia will play again soon. Additionally, since the second half of the season has already started, we cannot anticipate Lavia’s return anytime soon.

He was out for almost the first half of the campaign, and now with another fresh injury, we certainly cannot risk and play him. It depends on Pochettino and his medical team to give the green light on his return. Playing him against Liverpool certainly doesn’t make sense because it will be a big match and most efforts will be demanded from the players, which Lavia currently cannot put in.

He will undoubtedly play, but not until he is completely healed. We have enough midfield players for the time being. However, we cannot overuse our foremost midfielders because they run the risk of suffering injuries, therefore Pochettino will eventually need to use his other options.
