Mauricio Pochettino has advised Armando Broja to change his body language following Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup’s third round.
The Albanian striker was on the scoresheet after finding limited chances during the entire first half but the 22-year-old found the back of the net with a flicked header in the second half.
It marked his second goal in 15 matches for the young striker, who has endured frequent injuries since last season. However, there are plenty of things to change for the striker, and given Broja’s lack of aggressiveness during the attack, it is doubtful if the forward is still far from his best.
Mauricio Pochettino was also questioned if a goal would give him the much-needed confidence after his goal came after so long, (h/t Metro), The Argentine manager said:
‘‘I think it should be amazing. He should smile, be positive, and change his body language. I think when he performs well and finds the net, he will improve. It’s important for the team and for him to improve his confidence.’’
The fact that Broja could not take advantage of those opportunities may have disappointed him. Being young, he still has a lot of things to work on. He wasn’t a threat and wasn’t playing very well in the first half. He was an effective player and made some great runs in the second half, and his header was a proper one we see from a striker, who flicked the header beyond the goalkeeper.
Pochettino wanted to see more from Broja from the start of the match but he couldn’t deliver. The second half might have changed things so when he scored, he wanted to see more positive body language from Broja.
We will be depending on him until Nicolas Jackson returns from AFCON, so this goal will be crucial in helping him get the confidence that he needs. He is a legitimate striker, and if he can work on a few things, we’ll have a centre-forward who is aggressive and can instil fear in defenders.
