Chelsea forward Armando Broja recently shared insights into his challenges upon returning from a serious injury, enduring several games without finding the back of the net.
The academy player netted his second goal during Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Preston, executing a header to the far post from a splendid cross by Malo Gusto.
Broja initially scored upon his return from injury in September during a 2-0 win against Fulham. Subsequently, he endured an 11-game goal drought.
It will certainly frustrate a player who endured an injury-ridden season and then couldn’t find the back of the net. According to the Evening Standard, Broja finally admitted how he was annoyed after not scoring goals regularly and said:
“When you go on a run where you are not scoring much, you can get a bit down. It’s not the greatest feeling, but getting a goal in a game like this makes up for it.”
Since he has been out of the game for months and it takes time to get back into the swing of things, injuries have been Broja’s biggest issue. He hasn’t scored goals since his comeback, though, and that will undoubtedly bother him because he may secretly believe that he isn’t doing enough to contribute to the games.
To become an authentic striker, he will need to improve in several areas because, at times, his performances fall short of expectations. Broja has to improve his positional awareness in opposition, which is one of the most crucial aspects of a striker.
His header against Preston was akin to a legitimate striker’s goal, and it ought to inspire him to score more. Until Nicolas Jackson gets back, he will be reliant on him, therefore Broja will have to shoulder the responsibility of getting goals and let’s hope he doesn’t let us down.
