Chelsea are lining up a surprise move for Roberto Firmino

According to Sun, Chelsea are plotting a move for former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino in the January transfer window, who joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last summer.

The forward has three goals to his name in 17 matches, and it looks to be seen if he will be open to moving back to the Premier League. Due to their current financial circumstances, the Blues are compelled to stick to their budget.

Making a move for Victor Osimhen seems unrealistic. He has signed a new contract and has a new release clause, which Chelsea might find difficult to activate. Moreover, the Premier League will announce which club has been charged with the Financial Fair Play rule on January 15th.

A loan move for an experienced striker who has fared well in the Premier League will be ideal, but Firmino isn’t a consistent striker who can guarantee us goals throughout the end of the campaign.

During his time at Liverpool, he only once reached the 20-goal mark and for the rest of the campaigns, he only recorded double digits. In addition, he has been injury-prone.

The Blues are also keen on making a move for Karim Benzema, and the Frenchman seems to be a better option than Firmino because, when it comes to injury, the 36-year-old has barely been injured in his Real Madrid career, and at Al-Ittihad, he has a better record with 12 goals.

Chelsea are lining up a move for Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian has experience playing in the Premier League, so he is familiar with the structure of the league; but, Benzema is an out-and-out striker, and he exudes superior goalscoring prowess to the 32-year-old.

Mauricio Pochettino should be involved in the decision-making process since the Argentine manager will know which striker will transition quickly and start scoring goals right away in his system.

Therefore, let’s hope we make better decisions because the team has a serious goal-scoring imbalance and adding an inferior striker will backfire badly.
