Chelsea boss responds to question about Evan Ferguson transfer links: “You know very well”

Mauricio Pochettino claims that Chelsea are assessing the January transfer situation

Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his reluctance to discuss players linked with Chelsea, emphasizing the team’s focus on evaluating circumstances as they explore potential January transfers.

The Blues are reportedly considering a move for forward Evan Ferguson, a player they have admired for a while. However, any potential deal might involve negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion once again.

Recalling the prolonged negotiations for Moises Caicedo, where Chelsea broke the British transfer record, the club might face a similar scenario with Brighton, who are likely to demand a substantial fee for the talented youngster. Pochettino’s remarks suggest a cautious approach as Chelsea navigates the intricacies of the transfer market.

It has been revealed that the Seagulls have slapped a £100 million price on the 19-year-old, and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will once again spend massively to land the striker, but when questioned by Pochettino about the Ferguson links, (h/t Football.London) he said:

“No. You know very well that I don’t talk about rumours or players that are in a different club. I am so respectful. We are not talking. We are assessing the squad, and if something happens, we will communicate that to you. At the moment, we haven’t taken any decisions.”

Having already gone big on Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo, Chelsea and Brighton have a history of swapping players. Even Levi Colwill was sent out on loan at the Amex to earn his stripes before being promoted to the Chelsea senior squad. Whether Ferguson will join the list remains to be seen.

Ferguson had a fantastic start to the new campaign, but his performance has drastically dropped and he is hardly a threat in front of goal. Considering that he is only 19, it makes sense that he will become better as a striker with each campaign.

However, Blues targeting him doesn’t make sense because we need a reliable striker, not another youngster. We already have Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja. Spending £100 million would be too much on a young player; instead, we can add some funds and make a move for Victor Osimhen, a player who is far ahead in his development cycle and is proven at the top level.
