Roberto De Zerbi admits he was upset at the way Moises Caicedo left Brighton for Chelsea

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi stresses that he was disappointed to lose Moises Caicedo to Chelsea last summer when the Blues beat Liverpool to the signing of the Ecuadorian.

The Seagulls have suffered a decline in performance since losing their star midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Caicedo to Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively. Injuries have not helped either as they continue to remain inconsistent this season .

The Blues once again broke the British transfer record to land the 21-year-old, whom Chelsea had targeted since last season. Since joining West London, Caciedo has been a regular starter under Mauricio Pochettino and has built a strong midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher.

As Chelsea continue their refashioning under Mauricio Pochettino, Caicedo will have a bigger impact on play and will be a key member to help the Blues turn into a competitive side.

Meanwhile, De Zerbi hasn’t been happy with the way his former players left and joined the rival side.He expressed his frustration with TNT Sports (h/t Football.London), and explained why his side hasn’t recovered from their exit:

“I am sorry to lose great players. Caicedo and Mac Allister, I am not happy. But I know very well where I am working, and the policy of the club is like this. We are playing with four attackers.”

Brighton’s two best players, who commanded midfield and set the tone for the team, are no longer with them. The defensive midfielder Caicedo played a crucial role in the Seagulls’ Europa League berth. The midfield position is crucial, and it requires careful selection of players, particularly pivots.

Chelsea might be familiar with their predicament, as they suffered greatly, and our midfielder was overpowered by opponents last season when they lost N’Golo Kante to injury for the majority of the campaign. Our midfield’s vitality stemmed from Kante, whose presence maintained the equilibrium of our midfield. Brighton will find it hard to find someone to replace Caicedo.
