Dark clouds are looming over Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino‘s head. The club’s growing list of injuries is directly affecting its performance on-field. He faces the latest blow in the form of Robert Sanchez‘s absence. Chelsea’s first-choice keeper limped off the pitch after picking up a knee injury against Everton.
The Argentine boss now has his focus on preparing Dorde Petrovic for the job. He is all set to grant his summer arrival a chance. Chelsea will be facing Sheffield United in the upcoming Premier League clash. Petrovic arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer alongside Robert Sanchez.
The 24-year-old, however, got no chance to play until now as Sanchez secured that spot. The only time the former MLS star was handed a chance was a six-minute cameo against Everton. Pochettino expressed his backing for the newly arrived shot-stopper in a recent press conference.
When asked about Petrović ahead of the Sheffield United game, this is what the Chelsea boss said, as quoted by Football. London,
“Of course. I have faith in all of my players. He arrived at Chelsea because we believed he had great potential. Now after four or five months working with us is the moment for him to step up and feel good because we have the trust in him. Now is to make the debut in Stamford Bridge, yes we trust that he can perform in the way we want.”
The Serbian international hasn’t had the chance to prove his worth to Chelsea fans yet but he comes with a strong CV. Owing to his talent, Petrović was named the goalkeeper for the 2023 MLS-all star team that faced Arenal earlier this year. Premier League being a different ball game altogether, the fans need a convincing performance from their backup goalie.
The Sheffield game this weekend could be a game-changer for Dorde Petrovic. The anticipations are sky-high already! Let’s hope he lives up to the billing.
