Mauricio Pochettino continues to receive the backing of Chelsea owners despite the 2-0 defeat to Everton last week. It was their second setback in a row before losing to Manchester United 2-2 midweek.
According to Football.London, Pochettino remains in the full trust of the Chelsea board, who feels he is an ideal fit to aid the club following a disappointing last term.
So far under the Argentine, the Blues have lost seven Premier League games this campaign, two more matches than they have won. The former Paris Saint-Germain manager has inherited a young squad that isn’t fully developed to scrape out consistent wins.
Todd Boehly’s type of vision seeks to sign elite young players worldwide and centre his projects around them. The American business has also acquired stakes in Strasbourg, a team in Ligue 1.
We have plenty of miles to go before we can be labelled an exemplary squad. After Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to the Toffees, Pochettino challenged the players to be more aggressive.
Now the 51-year-old claimed Chelsea needs some reinforcement in the squad and has asked the board to back him up in the transfer window to add more quality to the roster. Pochettino expects this time that owners sign more experienced players, who can help change the current form of the club.
Chelsea’s fans are extremely intolerant and have never been put up with the club’s terrible performance under multiple managers throughout Roman Abramovich’s ownership. Under his leadership, the clubs consistently won trophies through the hiring of experienced players rather than young ones.
However, at this point, Pochettino is not to blame for the players’ poor inconsistent performance. Firing a manager is never a solution. Our primary issue is that we have a young team, and building a project around these rookies will take time.
The owners should bear responsibility for this squad structure, which is why Pochettino is now venting his frustration at the press conference by criticising his team for being too soft against Newcastle United and for lacking aggression against the Toffees.
