Pep Guardiola gives a less-than-thrilled appraisal of Chelsea star Cole Palmer

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola gave a lukewarm response when asked about former Sky Blurs talent, Cole Palmer, who has been thriving since joining Chelsea last summer.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge, scoring three vital penalties and notching two assists already this season. But when questioned on Palmer’s brilliant start in West London, Guardiola simply said: “Congratulations for Chelsea and him.”

Pressed further by reporters, the City boss expanded slightly, stating that he was pleased for the youngster as he had wanted game time which he had gotten at Stamford Bridge. A few eyebrows were raised when Palmer moved to the Bridge for big money but it would appear that we have gotten the transfer right.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola offered a brief praise of Ex-City star Cole Palmer who is delivering consistently for the Blues.

‘I’m really pleased. The reason why was that, he wanted game time. He has it, so congratulations.’

As covered by Football.london, while hardly overflowing with praise, Guardiola at least acknowledged Palmer’s wish for more minutes motivated the move to Chelsea and has proven justified by his superb performances. At 21, he is still young but appears to have the drive to motivate himself and make a name in the top flight.

Since his £42.5 million deadline day transfer, the 21-year-old Palmer has seamlessly fit into Pochettino’s squad. His spot-kick goal against Tottenham has made him a fan favourite.

Palmer has made clear he relishes the chance to win trophies at Chelsea after claiming numerous honours with City. Guardiola was willing to let the talented prospect leave, but may soon regret that decision if Palmer’s development continues.

For now, Guardiola appears content seeing his former academy player flourish across town at Chelsea. While he did congratulate Palmer, his comments lacked much enthusiasm or admiration. In his 13 matches as a Man in Blue, Palmer has netted five times and provided four assists. Surely, he is just getting started.

Chelsea fans will not mind Guardiola’s tepid response, however, if Palmer maintains his stellar form. The young midfielder is proving a revelation and could haunt City for years to come.
