Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt speaks about signing Chelsea superstar Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva is an enigma and Chelsea are very lucky to have him in their ranks. The experienced Brazilian defender is still going strong in arguably the toughest league in the world at the age of 39 and shows no signs of slowing down.

Every season, there is a feeling that this might be the last time we see Silva in a Blues jersey, but he continues to defy the odds. Even this campaign, he is a consistent starter as he looks to guide the numerous youngsters in the Chelsea team.

The talks of this being Silva’s last season in the Premier League are very ripe and a return to Brazilian club Fluminense is said to be on the cards. At an age where people have already started playing in other leagues, the Chelsea defender still looks extremely fit for the PL.

Make no mistake, if Thiago Silva chooses to do so, he could play at least one more season for Chelsea. The Blues might not want to let the Brazilian go if he chooses to stay. He is one of the very few experienced heads in the dressing room.

Speaking about the situation to TNT Sport as quoted by Transfer Talk: Chelsea and Man United eye Dumfries – ESPN, here is what Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has said about bringing the Chelsea man back to Brazil.

“I want to take the opportunity to say that I still have the desire to bring Silva back due to his high performance. But it depends much more on his desire, it’s not pressure, if he doesn’t come back, that doesn’t diminish the love he has for the club, nor can it diminish the love we have for him. I am a person that likes to go after my dreams. I’m going to keep trying, hopefully we can strengthen our team next year.”

At this stage of his career, Silva contributes massively on the pitch but it’s influence in the dressing room that makes him irreplaceable. Imagine someone like the Brazilian staying around for a couple more seasons guiding the likes of Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.

That said, the emotional return to Brazil is something that cannot be put a price on. For all his quality, Silva might want to finish off his playing days with Fluminense and it is clear that the club would do anything to get him.

Right now, Silva might not be thinking too much about the future. He would be hoping to keep continuing the good form and help Chelsea finish this season in a respectable position. The signs of improvement are there for everyone to see.
