Chelsea and Manchester United are set to compete for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong

Chelsea will have a chance to take advantage of Jeremie Frimpong’s affordable release clause at Bayern Leverkusen, which has been set at £34.6 million.

According to Sky Germany, (h/t Express), the 22-year-old right-wing back is reportedly being pursued by Chelsea and Manchester United, and considering his smaller release clause, which will kick in next summer, his purchase might come at a low cost.

Additionally, it is disclosed that the fullback has indicated his desire to play for a Premier League team and is open to leaving Leverkusen next summer.

The youngster is enjoying a productive season for the Xabi Alonso side and has racked up 13 goal contributions in his last 17 matches. He is also versatile and can operate as a right-back or right-wing back.

Chelsea currently have Reece James and Malo Gusto in the right-back position, while Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke have occupied the right-wing position. So it comes into question who Frimpong will replace on the right side of the field at Chelsea. He has been in terrific form for the Alonso side, which is at the top of the Bundesliga table.

The Blues don’t want to miss out on this exceptional addition, especially considering his affordable release clause, but they will have to contend with United and the possibility of several other clubs joining by the time his clause kicks in next summer.

Given Frimpong’s performance thus far this season, we should expect competition to rise, and other clubs will be fighting for his services. We have good depth on our right side, so it shouldn’t bother us if we lose out on signing a fantastic player. But if the opportunity arises we should consider signing him.

However, since his release clause is currently at this low cost, we should try to negotiate because a player of his calibre is hard to find for such a small amount in the current transfer market.
